You Gotta Start Somewhere… The Third Place Origin Story

We’ve come to realize that while many of you may know our story, the same can be said for the opposite… A ton of listeners have been asking us how did you two meet, for one, and how does that relate with the concept of The Third Place podcast. So this week, our episode covers just that. It is short and sweet and to the point, which we all know how hard it can be to carve out podcast time these days, am I right?

To share a little bit about our story here, I will start with how David and I met. Six years ago he stopped into The Tea Spot where I was working at the time, having just tried a tea-infused beer a block away at Avery Brewing in Boulder, CO. We quickly formed a work relationship as La Terza coffee (the company that David owns and runs in Cincinnati, OH) was looking for a speciality tea partner. It was synchronistic from the start.

Over the years, my work evolved and we remained friends as our conversations revolved around many of the concepts and issues that we address now in The Third Place. We were always approaching each other with questions regarding leadership and personal development from a place of curiosity and humility. This commonality led us to record a call with coffee shop owners at the start of the pandemic to provide them with a safe place, a third place, to process these dramatic and intense changes. We quickly realized that this work could be powerful beyond the coffee shop setting and so in the Fall, we re-launched with a focus on restoring the art of dialogue within The Third Place…

This work has been beyond satiating for me, and for David, as well. It has pushed us to practice what we preach and we feel like we have found our soul work through such a tiny, happenstance meeting six years ago.

As always, thank you for listening and for your support.
